Littleton Robotics team opens competition season – Littleton Independent

Mechanical Advantage 6328, Littleton’s rookie FIRST Robotics Competition team, opened the 2017 competition season by attending the kickoff event on Jan. 7 at Southern New Hampshire University.
The event included the release of the animation describing this year’s game STEAMWORKS (available for viewing at littletonrobotics.org), and allowed the team to walk around a demonstration playing field to investigate what they’ll be using in competitions. The team has approximately six weeks to build a robot that collects and delivers “fuel” balls and “rotor” gears, and then climbs a rope onto the team’s “airship.”
Through the fall, in preparation for the build season, the Mechanical Advantage team has been meeting regularly to hone design and programming skills needed for robot design, conduct community outreach campaigns, organize fundraising efforts and meet with other area FIRST teams and mentors.
FIRST Robotics is a program for high school students with an interest in science, technology, engineering, math and related fields. The organization was founded by Dean Kamen, who attended the kickoff event, in 1989, who hosts annual competitions where the students showcase their team robots and learn from others in the competition.
Mechanical Advantage is actively looking for organizations willing to help sponsor the team. For information, contact Deanna Clark at dclark4120@gmail.com or visit littletonrobotics.org.
